Cultural/Global: Know Your Narrative
Objective: The purpose of this session is to begin to explore each young man’s ancestral heritage as a part of defining their cultural identity. The information gathered during this session will be used to develop their culminating ceremony speech.
Date/Time: February 19, 2022 (12-3 pm EST)
Location: Harvey B. Gantt Center for African American Arts and Culture 551 S. Tryon Street Charlotte, NC 28202 Parking Instructions: The Levine Center for the Arts Parking Garage - Parking for Levine Center for the Arts is located across Tryon Street from the Gantt. The entrance to the garage is at 101 W. Stonewall Street. Visitor parking is offered on levels P1 and P2. When you arrive at the Gantt, please ask our Visitor Experience team for a discounted parking pass. When exiting the parking garage, the maximum charge with the Gantt pass is $5.00 on weekdays and weekends.) Attire: TROPF Blue Oxford Shirt, Khaki Pants, Comfortable Shoes. TROPF face mask required. Assignment: The Ancestry DNA kit was delivered to your home in January and you should have an established profile on Ancestry.com and activated the kit. Each young man is to complete the DNA test, leverage the online resources at Ancestry.com, and conversations with family to identify their father’s lineage for four generations (e.g., mom and dad, father parents, father grandparents, father great grandparents).
